A replica watch doesn’t just tell time, it tells the world who you are.
“If a (man) has a nice watch with a beautiful strap and face, it means he knows style. This is important,” Boris Rabinovich, the owner of Spring Lake Jewelers, said. “For women, I know many who own five, six or even seven watches. There are a lot more women into watches than ever before. They have a different watch for every occasion.”
Rabinovich said today there is a watch for everyone – whether you’re into classic styles, upscale designs or high tech features.
“The watch industry is moving forward as fast as any other industry because of new technology, new demands, new materials, new sizes, new shapes,” Rabinovich said.
Many watch companies have been around for 200 years – most hail from Switzerland, France and Germany, Rabinovich said. Big contenders include Rolex, the elite watch company; Patek Philippe; Tissot; and Audemars Piguet.
The older watches often feature simple designs that make it easy to tell time. But now more than ever, the big watch companies are evolving to add a modern twist.
Tissot has been making watches since 1853. Their Tissot T-Touch watches come with a variety of high tech sports features, including altitude, compass, weather, tides and commute estimation. Opt for the Tissot Sailing-Touch if you’re a boat lover or the Tissot T-Touch Expert if you’re an avid hiker.
“The technology is very simple,” Rabinovich said. “It’s not an Apple watch, but in the same concept. Every year, they develop new features. It’s avant garde for the active person.”
He added that you don’t have to worry about constantly charging this smartwatch or relying on 4G.
The Tissot Touch Collection ranges from $175 to $250.
Leo Zeik, one of the owners at Leonardo Jewelers in Red Bank, said there is a big demand for smart watches, and many companies, including Breitling,Tag Heuer and Frédérique Constant, are adding new technologies.
Frédérique Constant’s Horological Smartwatch can store different time zones, track your daily steps, calories burned and total distance walked. It also can keep track of your sleep activity when placed under your pillow.
“You don’t get text messages on these, but it’s basically a cross between a Fitbit and a watch,” Zeik said. “It’s a smaller Swiss brand that was founded by a husband and wife team 10 years ago. They make quality luxury replica watches that are affordable.”
The watch can sync with your phone on an app, where you can analyze and store daily activity and sleep objectives. Frédérique Constant Horological Smartwatches start around $295.
If you’re looking for a more interactive watch experience, Samsung’s Gear S3 can connect to 4G LTE, and work as a second phone. It can send texts, make calls, get emails and receive notifications.
Access your favorite apps, including Lyft, Yelp, Spotify and maps. The face of the watch is designed to resist water and other elements, and can track heart rate, steps, speed and more.
The classic Gear S3 starts at $299.
When it comes to style, Zeik said the classic watch companies steer away from trends.
“Our biggest brand is Rolex. It’s the most classic of all watches. They come out with new models, but it basically looks the same,” Zeik said. “That’s why it has such a great resale value.”
He said one from 1973 aesthetically isn’t much different from Rolex’s watches in 2017.
“They improve the movements, the bracelets, the crystals, but a lot of the materials look the same,” Zeik said. “When you buy a Rolex, it’s because it’s forever, not just this week.”
Many women are wearing 28 millimeter face watches all the way up to 36 millimeters. 36 millimeters has become the new unisex size, Zeik said.
“A woman would buy any size watch, but a man would not buy a small watch,” Zeik said. “Women are wearing bigger, bolder watches. And the great thing is that even if it grows out of fashion, it’s still a great watch you can give your husband.”
Women may be wearing bigger watches than in the past, but the trend of oversized statement piece watches, which started around five years ago, is phasing out.
Rabinovich said men typically wear watches around 40 to 45 millimeters, while women typically wear 30 to 36 millimeters.
“Men’s replica watches with diamonds and other gemstones also died out because it goes with fashion,” Rabinovich said. “(A watch) is an accessory for what you wear so it has to go with style.”
When it comes to colors, 15 years ago, it was all yellow, and five years ago, it was all white, Rabinovich said. Today, it’s two-toned. Watches that feature white and gold are easier to pair with jewelry, whether it’s silver or gold, he said.
“(Different tastes) are based on the demographic,” Rabinovich said. “There are different people, different mindsets, different lifestyles.”
